Avalon Ballroom, January 26th 1969
Hey, I also wanna point out this show, notable for the third and last appearance of the beautiful and mysterious Lesh/Hunter tune “Clementine”.  This was a beautiful tune in 5/4!  Why’d they stop playing it!  Maybe it was tough.  But it always opened itself up to some interesting exploration, and has a wistful, baroque psychedelia that makes one prone to appreciate a lovely midnight glade in the moonlight.  Anyway, this one version from 1969 (the other two were both in early ‘68) sounds more “modern” for sure, like the Dead you hear on Live/Dead rather than, say the Dead you hear on Anthem.  And in fact speaking of, this Eleven and Lovelight are the very same ones you hear on Live/Dead.
This whole show is gold, the entire 3-night Avalon was.
